Two of my photos from the project "Not on the same boat", funded by the National Geographic COVID-19 Emergency Fund for Journalists, were selected for "Inside the Curve: Stories from the Pandemic," released by Disney Books. These two pictures taken in Rome were chosen by @insidenatgeo for its "extraordinary collection of stories of the COVID pandemic: from the isolation and devastation of quarantine to the joy of reunion". I am very proud to see my work featured in this incredible book curated by Claudi Carreras and also in the exhibition currently on display at the United Nation headquarter in New York until 2 December 2022. A collective document that mourns our losses from the past three years, but is also filled with the hope that comes from witnessing global communities who care deeply for one another. https://books.disney.com/book/inside-the-curve/ #insidethecurve #natgeo #book #photography #pandemic #reunion #hope #nationalgeographicsociety #insidenatgeo
"Watershed", my new project about solutions implemented by indigenous women and local communities, with the help of EU and @avsi_foundation to fight drought and climate change in Mexico, has been published as a photo gallery on the Guardian (link in bio). In this picture, Azucena Asunción Martínez Sántos is seen portrayed with her daughter Wendy Crespo Martínez while washing dishes in the courtyard of her home, in the indigenous community of Mogote Colorado. Following the construction of rainwater harvesting tanks, built to overcome the problems of drought and lack of water resources, people have finally been able to start using water at home, according to their needs. Santiago Ayuquililla is a dusty, arid part of Oaxaca, where many people do not have access to clean water, either because there is no infrastructure in place or because drought has dried up nearby water sources. #mexico #theguardian #photojournalism #photooftheday #dji #djiair2s #sustainability #drought #water #climatechange #avsimexico #avsi #community #ngo #color #documentaryphotography
"Watershed", my new project about solutions implemented by indigenous women and local communities to fight drought and climate change in Mexico, has been published today as a photo gallery on The Guardian with the title "Every drop is precious: the Mexican women saving water for their villages". The climate crisis has exacerbated drought across Mexico. But female-led projects to build harvesting and filtration tanks are helping communities conserve what rain there is, and make it safe to drink. Words and photographs by Matteo Bastianelli. Many thanks to the @avsi_foundation and @guardian Global development team, a section supported by
